London Grand Prix 2012 - Sayers Breaks GB Javelin Record
Great Britain's Goldie Sayers breaks her own national record to beat a top-class javelin field at the London Grand Prix. Her first round throw of 66.17 metres was enough to beat reigning Olympic champion Barbora Spotakova and world number one Sunette Viljoen, who finished second and fourth respectively. Goldie Sayers visits Thandi Wines in Elgin, about 80Km East of Cape Town, South Africa. Thandi is a Fairtrade producer. Present were Fairtrade's Faith Mall, a journalist from the PA, Helen William, Vernon Henn - Thandi General Manager, Charles Wenn - Thandi Assistant Manager, and Jan Skippers - Thandi Assistant Manager.

Goldie has featured as the British number one javelin thrower for the past six years and has consistently been ranked within the world's top ten. She is consistent, always eager and cool under pressure. Despite a British record in the finals of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Goldie narrowly missed out on a medal after achieving a fourth placed finish. Next year she wants to put that right and here she tells us that desire and hard work are the foundation for success at the highest level.

Goldie Sayers who set a UK javelin record of 65.05 meters a fortnight earlier, scored the biggest victory of her international career. Sayers, with a second-round throw of 63.59 meters, beat German European champion Steffi Nerius and the two women who accompanied her on the medal podium last year in Gothenburg, Czech Barbora Spotakova and Mercedes Chilla of Spain.
